Sedimentary petrology as a tool for understanding of the geological history of the Carpatho-Balkan region
Conveners: Katarzyna Górniak
This session will provide the opportunity to discuss the possibilities and limits of the use of data obtained from sedimentary petrology to decipher and understand the geodynamic evolution of sedimentary basins of Southeast European Mountain belts. Combining the petrology with sedimentology, stratigraphy, palaeogeography, tectonics, geophysics, engineering geology and hydrocarbon prospecting will be useful here. A broad variety of petrologic contributions dealing with provenance of sedimentary rocks of various lithology and ages from the Carpatho-Balkan region are invited. Data on the origin of constituents of these rocks (e.g. heavy minerals, clay, carbonates, and silica minerals) used for solving variable problems of geological history of the region are welcome too.
