MAGMATISM OF THE TETHYAN REALM: FROM PETROLOGY AND GEOCHEMISTRY TO PALEOTECTONIC RECONSTRUCTIONS
Conveners: Dejan Prelević, Kristina Šarić and Vladica Cvetković
A major part of the Carpatho-Balkan region inherits its geology from the evolution of the Vardar Tethys Ocean that existed in-between the Eurasian and Gondwana continental plates. The resulting Vardar–Tethyan mega-suture preserves numerous records of various magmatic processes, which had occurred before, during and after the life-span of the ocean. We invite authors to send their contributions that address magmatism of the Tethyan realm. By this approach of encompassing all magmatic processes from pre-Triassic time to almost present day, we want to gather a large number of specialists in magmatic petrology of the entire Carpatho-Balkan region under a single session, because they/we all use the same tools and the same argumentation in studying igneous processes no matter of their age or particular geotectonic context.
